This is a "snipit" of an interview Pete did with Paul Du Noyer in 1982 right after the release of "Chinese Eyes".
Interviewer: "You called your new LP "Chinese Eyes". Why is that"?
Pete: "I think the fundamental thing we're suffering from at the moment in that we've become so media-ised, so use to externalizing everything that we don't take responsibility for fucking ANYTHING. And that's really what the title is about: the heroes and villians all look the same. I don't want to explain it and make it too pat 'cause I see it on a thousand different levels".
Interviewer: "And you dedicated it to "teenagers in love"?
Pete: "Yeah, that was a last minute thing. And it's to my wife and myself who are behaving like teenagers at the moment".
The interview continues and here is the part I find most interesting. Pete says, "I feel I've been externalized to a great extent and I've fought against this more than anybody in the business.
I think it's a weekness in me, this need to get reacted to. It's not an inability to deal with "stardom" because that's a completely empty quality.
When it comes down to it, the feedback I need is LETTERS. That's why I try to reply; as people know they CAN get through to me if they want".
How profound? Build it and they will come!

Letters.... aw, that IS sweet. Pete sure is one-of-a-kind.
(Lovin' your new look here, Janice.)
Oops, Hi Lucy! I thought I would be first!
Hi Janice! ;)
Wow...that last part!
Profound is right.:)
And wow to a new post! About time! Just kidding, hehe.
But it's nice to see you, seriously. :)
Hi Janice!
YAY - you're posting!
Good for you.
Oh I wrote the most insane letter to Pete once ...I think he says he has a filing cabinet full of them so I am in good company.
Then, years later, I wrote a very nice, coherent letter and offered my support when he was going through all that legal crap a few years ago...he sent me a lovely note, as well as a sheet full of information on what to do for tinnitus (I am nearly deaf in one ear because of it). Six months later he sent me a Christmas card! :)
Cool, ay?
Hope you are well.
I am so so - just anxious about the big move.
Take care!
Love,
Suexx
Howdy Janice:
Thanks for stopping by my blog to say hey. I would love to hear/read this entire interview. Forgot that he dedicated it to teenagers in love and did not know at all that he was referring to himself and his wife!

Hi Janice,
Just wanted to stop by and let you know how much your comments are enjoyed and appreciated! You seem to find just the right thing in the right moment. Sweet!
Do you still need help getting your photo into the profile section?
It took me forever to figure it out, but eventually did. I'll be glad to help. Just let me know if you still want to do that.

Hi Janice,
Sorry but in a rush (about to leave for vacation)... I haven't had a chance to figure out exactly what to tell you re posting your images.. etc..) maybe someone else can help you in the meantime?
Otherwise, I will help when I get back!
- Lucy.
Okay, this may work.
I saved your photo into a blog post on my site. It needed to be resized to meet the parameters for blogger. This may or may not work. ;o)
When you sign into your blog, click on "dashboard." Then to the top right, there should be an area that reads "Edit profile." Scroll down about halfway and there's a section titled "Photograph." Paste this url into it (with no spaces.):
http://bp2.blogger.com/_19d5JH0pjcs/RmoEitQYdpI/AAAAAAAAACc/at-oi0emVPw/s1600-h/janice.jpg
Then scroll all the way down to the bottom and click on "Save Profile" - the huge orange button at the bottom.
Hopefully, this will work!
Let me know if it doesn't.

Hi again!
Okay, that didn't work. I reviewed the size and realize it was still too big. This may be the problem. I redid it and here is the link to copy and paste in the photograph link in your profile.
Try, try again. :o)

Hey Janice, I liked your new post over there about "the M" as I didn't know about the M being for mystery and magic.
So I finally got the joke, cute! And apt.;)
Hi Janice!
I appreciate your comments on my drawing. Yes Smash Your Head Against the Wall is a wonderful album. JAE was a one of a kind himself.
I wrote to Pete twice and both times he did write back. He is truly connected to his fans. That is one of the qualities that I like so much about him.
See you around PT land!
Zoe
ta (again!) for your beautiful comment.
xx
Hi Janice.
You got a blog!
I remember this interview....the part about Pete and Karen acting like teenagers stuck with me....so I always thought of Chinese Eyes as one big love song....
I, like Sue, did write one stupid letter, with my cousin, to Pete when we were teenagers....gawd it was awful. We were trying to be funny, and clever and well, we never got a response, so Pete must of thought it was awful too. :)
Hi Janice,
Love the photo addition of Pete, too! I received your note about the profile.
Sorry the profile photo isn't working out. I'm out of solutions. You might have to re-save it/reload it to your computer, making sure it's a "save as" file no more than around 70k. 1.5 x 1.5 might do it in the image resizing. This way, you'll have the 2 copies of it. One sized as it was loaded, and one sized to fit the profile parameter for Blogger.
Hope your day is sunny and joyful!

Hi Lyricsgrl,
Tried to post a message but, can't get through to your page ~ I'm feeling a little dejected here!!!!
Hopefully you will stop back by and see that I'm thinking about you and let you know how much you are appreciated :)
Thanks for being there since the beginning :)
Hi Janice
Thanks for stopping by. Yeah hopefully Pete will stop by. I'm so glad that he is doing all this. It's kinda funny of how we all kinda are reading each others blogs.. through Pete's.

I think I might be able to help you, Janice, simply because I am the most computer illiterate person around. And if I can find a way to do it, you can, too. ;)
The easy way that I do it is I have a "dropshots" acct. If you DL the free
version, then you can just drag and drop a lot of this. You get a dropshots acct, DL the little box onto your taskbar, and you can drag and drop all of your photos and videos into that box.
Then you go to the site, where all your photos and vids are put up, you can see them, and just copy the URL and paste it into your "edit profile page".
Thats how I did it. You can take them from your own computer files, but this makes it sooo easy, and they adjust and make the photos look better. Sizes them for you. :)
If you didn't understand this, let me know. It's just an easier way to do it. :)
Pete is a bit of a pill, idn't he?
a bit of a pill? whadya mean?
(I first read that as a "bit of a pull" LOL)
I wanna write to Pete and send him my Horse's Neck for signing, but in the back of my mind I worry I might not get it back. So I keep putting it off.
hi janice! I'll see if I can help ya out later today...
- Lucy.
janice,
Or you could get a photobucket account. It's very user-friendly, and it's easy to click on any photo in that account once you want to upload it to blogger.
As for your other question on helping the poor, I'll have to think a bit longer on this. I'm assuming by money and food you're also thinking of essential incidentals such as health and cosmetic supplies?
TTYL!
Wow, great photos! Jeez, some of these could be -should be- in a magazine or book! Like that jumping shot - Wow again! :)
Aw, loving the pics, Janice!
Thanks so much for sharing them. :-))
Was this the special night?
(I almost find it more interesting to see "everyday" candid shots of stars... Very cool.)
- Lucy. :-)
The back stage at the Rosemont picture was the "BIG" night ~ This picture was taken shortly before they went on stage. The kiss happened later ~ after the show ~ I'm getting all dreamy now :)
Hi there Janice,
Thanks for popping in my blog! I think I read this interview. There was a large interviews and articles archive in the site www.thewho.net, and I consumed all the interviews there. There's really no one like Pete in interviews!
Thanks for stopping by TOWHM Janice.
Janice,
Thanks so much for stopping by my blog and the kind words!! Your pic is beautiful.
~Lace~
Nice photos!

Hi Janice!
I've not forgotten you. Just have been out of range for a time. ;o)
Thank you for the lovely note on my blog, which is hopelessly behind. But, the time we took away was crucial to my recovery and the children's mental health. ;o) Sometimes you just have to go where and do things that people tell you are not possible to go to or do. (if that made sense. lol) Anyway, we're doing okay!
Your blog background is stunning! It's quantum. No doubt. :o)

Janice! I hope this is EUREKA.
Duh duh duh.
I was copying the wrong part of the saved profile. If blogger will let me host your profile pic (it should) ... copy and paste the above link into your profile edit page. Then save the page. Hoping this works!
xo Tink
freaking eureka Watson! It works on mine!
Ha ha ha!!!!! wheeee!
Received your note, Janice.
Eureka, eureka, eureka!
So glad that it worked and that you are happy. A spot of JOY in a world that looks a bit frightening this week.
Have fun playing with your blog and learning the features. Trial & error and sometimes just plain dumb luck is what did it! wheeeeeee!~

Hi Janice,
Can you come out and play? :o)
